Common installation problems in Sharjah

The unit is too small for the room

A 1.5-ton split that cooled a bedroom will not hold a majlis with a west window in Al Khan in July. Undersizing shows up as a unit that never switches off and a room that stays near 28 degrees. We size from the room area, the glass, the floor, and whether the door stays open to a kitchen. Oversizing is the opposite fault: the unit short-cycles, leaves the air clammy, and wears the compressor. The quote states the capacity we recommend and why.

The outdoor unit cannot breathe

Sharjah apartments often put the condenser on a ledge, in a shaft, or behind a decorative screen. If the hot air leaving the fan is sucked back into the coil, head pressure rises and cooling collapses on the hottest days. We look at the gap above, beside, and in front of the fan before we accept the spot. A screen that looks tidy and blocks the fan is called out on the quote, not discovered after the gypsum is finished.

The copper run is too long for the kit

A standard three-metre kit is enough for many Al Majaz and Al Nahda apartments. A villa in Muwaileh or Al Taawun with the outdoor unit on the roof needs a longer run, the correct pipe diameter, and extra refrigerant weighed in after a vacuum. A long run done with undersized pipe or with no extra charge cools poorly and ices. We measure the run and price the pipe per metre rather than stretching a short kit.

The drain has no fall

Water indoors a week after installation is usually the drain, not a defect in the machine. The pipe must fall all the way to the outlet. A rise behind a wardrobe, or a drain tied into a bathroom line that surcharges, fills the pan. We set the fall, support the pipe, and pour water through it while the covers are still off. If a pump is required because the outlet is above the unit, the pump is on the quote.

Power is an afterthought

The outdoor unit needs an isolator and a breaker sized to the nameplate. Sharing a socket with a water heater, or landing the compressor on a lighting circuit, trips the board the first afternoon the unit works hard. If the consumer unit has no spare way, an electrician is booked before install day. That cost is written down. We do not energise a new unit from a temporary plug.

The lines were not vacuumed

Air and moisture left in the copper become acid and ice once the system runs. The symptom is weak cooling and a compressor that sounds unhappy within a season. We evacuate the lines and hold the vacuum. The unit is not opened to the charge until the gauges stay down. This step is not optional on a Sharjah roof where the pipes are hot and any moisture flashes to vapour.

Noise comes through the wall

A rigid copper line clamped hard against a block wall carries compressor vibration into the bedroom. Rubber supports, a short flexible section where the run enters the room, and a bracket that is actually tight stop most of it. We check this before the trunking lid goes on, because opening a finished trunk later marks the paint.

The wrong unit type for the room

A wall split is right for a bedroom. A cassette is often better for a shop in Industrial Area where floor space and a blast of air at head height both matter. A ducted unit suits a villa floor with several rooms, and it needs ceiling space and a return path. How an installation is booked

Send the room size, the floor, and a photo of where the outdoor unit could sit. We confirm whether a site visit is required or a guide price is enough. You approve a written quote that separates the machine, labour, copper, trunking, drain, and any electrical work. On the day the bracket goes up, the lines are run and insulated, the drain is tested, the system is vacuumed, and the unit is run until the supply air is stable. You are shown the filter and the isolator before we leave.

A standard wall-split install in an apartment usually takes three to five hours. A roof run on a villa takes longer and is priced for that. An undersized unit runs all day and the SEWA bill shows it. A condenser in a dead niche trips on high pressure every July. A drain without fall becomes a ceiling stain and an argument with the flat below. Moisture left in the lines shortens the compressor. These are not mysteries.
